Some initial thoughts on Portland:
- It like, never stops raining.
- The speed limits are higher here.
- The drive to Downtown Portland from my house is a little long. Oh well.
- My house is really easy to drive past. I do it like, every time.
- Work is so close it’s not even funny.
- I am not nearly as cold as I expected to be.
- We have all the essentials really near by.
- There’s no sales tax! Totally awesome.
- Somebody else pumps my gas. It’s a trip.
- I think I like it here.
The drive up was fairly uneventful. Just really god damn LONG. I never want to drive again. My tarp came loose while I was on the road so I had to pull over on the freeway and fix it. I was all MacGyver status with my swiss army knife and twine, climbing on that truck tying things down. I must have been quite the sight to see
I stopped in Rancho Cordova at my friends house for the night, then trudged along for like, 9 hours the rest of the way. I got snowed on! I didn’t need chains, which I was a little bit bummed about because I dropped $50 getting some just in case, but whatever. I suppose it was nice being able to drive a decent speed without them haha.
I got here Thursday and my new housemate Erick helped me bring all my junk in, and also his mom and siblings who were just leaving when I got here. Then Erick had to leave which was kind of funny. “Hi, here’s a key, sorry I won’t be here tonight, don’t make a mess!” hahaha.
So Friday I spent the whole day unpacking and I bought a mattress and a desk. Oh, and work clothes. I am officially broke until next month. Icky. Then Erick and I drank a whole lot of beer and watched Beerfest (totally appropriate, no?) and that was that.
Yesterday I did some more organizing then got tired of it. I need a break for a few days. Everything is shoved in my closet right now haha. Theeeen Erick and I drove to Downtown Portland to pick up Taco Bell and his friend Jim, and the three of us went to the Blazer’s game. They totally lost but it was fun anyway. I almost died on the stairs and now have a nasty bruise on my foot. Wearing shoes is a painful experience.
After the game, we met up with some more of their friends and went barhopping. Everybody was really nice, I had a good time. Of course, this morning I was hungover beyond belief. I trudged to Albertson’s and bought like, 2 gallons of Powerade. It was on sale for dirt cheap. So I drank a bunch of that and had some cereal and Excedrin and I feel much better.
I start work tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Sounds like a trip. :) Your drive isn’t too bad, although I’d love to do it someday just following 101. My longest roadtrip may be from NJ to LA. That was a long ass trip. Although my trip from LA to St. louis brought me through Texas, and driving through texas is like…forever.
so you moved? cool! sounds nice, minus the rain. Beerfest was OK but I’m more excited to see PotFest. ;)
I so loved Portland when I visited there a few times. While it seems to rain alot, its more like a drizzle then a driving rain. Oh and the coffee is to die for
Yeah Portland: warm and fuzzy and drizzling—I’m all happy for you. Cuz, I’m like, going by your desk at work, and you’re not in it. I’m all: “Hi Katie—er, where the hell is Katie?” I almost shed a tear, no really—I almost did. Ask Mark; he’ll tell you that I almost did.
Well, it’s all right I guess that you will probably love it up there; but seriously, please don’t screw up payroll ok?? I can’t take any more tragedy.
You’re abandoned work friend, Layne.
Glad to hear you made it there safe though the hangover doesn’t sound like much fun.
Last time I had a hangover I couldn’t eat, drink or look at anything for 24 hours solid lol
I always figured Portland would be a good place or me. Except for all the rain!
It hasn’t been raining as much as I expected it to…
Send us some rain here in Victoria Australia mate. We need it soo bad we are in drought.
